i'm a repair tech... with very little programming background ( mainly VB ).
68sec000 with atmel 49f040 flash memory.

i have a piece of equipment that will perform functions through rs232 commands.
the supplied list (OEM ) of functions is very limited but i know other functions are available.
i read the content of the flash memory and in the device program editor i can see ascii
text that lists commands that my rs232 port monitor sees.
i wrote a small VB program to expand the functionality ( send more hidden commands ) so the required task is completed, but

i would like to learn more about what is in the 49f040, disassemble with IDA pro was little help ( operator error i'm sure ). it's odd to me to be sending commands that perform the needed function but have no clue what it's really doing.

ok, background over. now the question. where do i start ? start reading machine language books, 68k reference manuals, emulators ? i can't find any reference to the commands i'm sending.

a side question: also in the code was the name TIGRIS PIRANHA which google had no answers for ??

sorry to be so long winded.
