hi
has anybody used motorola MC68EC0X0 IDP boards ?

they are evaluation boards made by Motorola around 1992..1998
which come composed by a motherboard and a CPU board
there is just one kind of motherboard, but there are many CPU boards
- MC68EC000 CPU board
- MC68EC020 CPU board
- MC68EC030 CPU board
- MC68EC040 CPU board

the motherboard comes wuth some expansion connectors for expansion boards
but, unfortunately, I haven't never seen the documentation about the IDP bus
so, here i am to ask if somebody has any experience about that

let me know :P

that's weird, the seven segment display is a simple memory mapped latch.
The IDP manual has the whole mapping.

p.s.
which IDP board, ROM version (<3.0? =3.1?) and CPU module do you have?

I have been hacking the IDP-ROM v3. After a lot of disassembly analysis with the superpowerful tool "IDA v6", I have already understood where the Intermetric's ROM debugger is located and I am ready to replace the code with something more useful.

The IDP-ROM is composed by two firmware merged together.

The first part is called "Mon68k". It was made by Motorola and it's a full monitor able to show and modify user's registers (but not superuser's registers), upload code in SREC form, and execute code.

The second part is called "Intermetrics ROM debugger". It looks it was a powerful debugger stub which talks on the serial but I have never tried it because it needs a counterpart on the host, which is clearly not opensource and limited to a few commercial UNIX for which there was commercial support, so it's very hard to be found and it requires too much effort because you need to buy an old UNIX workstation (e.g. a Sparcstation, or HPUX workstation).

"Intermetrics ROM debugger" takes 52Kbyte on the ROM (which is 128Kbyte of size), I am going to replace the area with a minimal "gdb-stub".
